Here is a brief guide to 4 gourmand destinations that you can easily experience in 1 weekend.
Abbaye de Saint Benoît-du-lac
This 100 year old Benedictine abbey was build in 1912. It is well renown for the variety of its famous cheeses many of which have won numerous awards on international cheese competitions. One our our favorite cheese is the blue Ermite cheese which is also the first cheese that the monks made back in 1940s.
Fromagerie La Station
A family business that spans 4 generations, Fromagerie La Station specializes in organic pastures that are then used in their cheeses. Two out of their five types of cheeses, Alfred Le Fermier and Raclette de Compton won the Canadian Cheese Grand Prix in 2009.
This is the first winery in North Hatley! Started in 2009 by planting 8000 vines, this vineyard has always practiced organic methods to cultivate the land and make their sparkling wines. In 2015, Phaneuf Wine Guide awarded the Grappe d’Or to the Domaine Bergeville sparkling white wine. You can explore this vineyard on guided or self-guided tours and also sample their wines.
Restaurant Plaisir Gourmand
Located in a 1860s house, this wonderful restaurant is owned and managed by Éric Garand and Jinny Dufour. This restaurant will certainly delight you and make your trip to the Eastern Townships very memorable. Specialized in cuisine du terroir, chef Eric Garand focuses primarily on local produce from Quebec. As a highly skilled sommelier, Jinny Dufour will make sure you chose the perfect bottle of wine to complement your dinner.
